CP685AVR/CP800AVR FAQs

1. How do I use the serial port on the UPS instead of the USB port?

  • Contact technical support and request a serial cable for your UPS.
  • Configure the Microsoft UPS service to control your UPS.
  • * The serial port can only be used with Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003 Server.

2. How do I configure the UPS function supplied by Windows 2000/XP to monitor my CyberPower UPS?

The use of the Windows 2000/XP UPS service is optional. Windows 2000/XP provides a generic UPS monitoring service that can be used in place of PowerPanel Personal Edition™. You cannot use both at the same time. The Microsoft UPS service will not work with a USB connection. You will need to contact technical support and request a serial cable in order to use the Microsoft UPS service. Both the native Microsoft UPS service and PowerPanel Personal Edition will run as a service.

To configure the 2000/XP interface:

  • Click on Start, point to Settings, then Control Panel.
  • Double click on Power Options.
  • On the UPS tab, click Select.
  • In the UPS selection dialog box, under select manufacturer, select "generic".
  • Under port, click the serial port where the UPS is attached.

To configure the monitoring signals:

  • On the UPS tab, click Configure.
  • In the UPS interface configuration dialog box, set the signal polarities to:
    • Power Fail/On Battery:Negative
    • Low battery:Negative
    • Remote UPS:Positive

Please note the following:

  • You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the administrators group in order to complete this procedure.
  • If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from completing this procedure. Check with your network administrator before attempting.
