How To Make Cat5e Cables

1. You will need to decide what type of cable you would like to make. If you are going to make a straight cable decide if you want to follow 568A standards or 568B standards. It does not matter which standard you choose as long as each connector is configured the same.

2. Cut the cable to the length you desire plus about 6 inches of extra length.  Strip each end of the cable sheathing back approximately one inch.  Take care when striping the outer sheath so you do not cut any of the 8 inner wires.

3. Arrange the wires following the standard you wish to use and flatten the arrangement.  Then use the cable tool to trim the wires leaving ½ inch exposed.

4. Insert the aligned wires into the rj45 tip making sure the wires extend to the end of the tip. The copper wire should be visible on all 8 wires when looking at the end of the tip.

5. Crimp the rj45 with your cable tool.

6. Repeat the process on the other end making sure each cable connector is arranged using the same color sequence from left to right.
