1. Installing PowerPanel Plus with Windows 95/98
The easiest way is to use the Windows' Plug and Play feature. To do this:
- Have your computer and UPS turned off.
- Connect the serial cable to the port on the UPS unit and an open serial port on the back of your computer.
- Turn the UPS on and start your computer.
- A message will display stating that new hardware has been found.
- Insert the Plug and Play disk into the floppy drive.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
If you do not see the New Hardware Found message:
- Check to see if your computer has more than one serial port. If it does, shut down your computer and move the cable to the other port.
- Restart your computer.
- If the New Hardware Found message is displayed , insert the Plug and Play disk into the floppy drive and follow the on-screen instructions.
If you are unable to get the New Hardware Found message to come up you will need to install the software manually. To install manually:
- Click on Start.
- Click on Settings.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double click on Add New Hardware. This will open the Add New Hardware Wizard.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Next button again. This will allow Windows to search for any Plug and Play devices.
- If it does not find the CPS UPS with PnP Interface, you will need to install the unit manually. If there are other devices listed, select "No the device is not on the list". You will then need to select "No, I wish to select the hardware from a list.
- Windows will then display a list of hardware types.
- Select "Other Devices". This is represented by a yellow question mark. (You may have to use the scroll bar on the right hand side of the list to find the question mark.)
- Click next.
- Windows will ask you for the manufacturer and model of the device that you wish to install. Insert the Plug and Play disk into the floppy drive and click on "Have Disk".
- You will get a message stating that Windows will copy files from A:\.
- Click the "OK" button.
- Windows will find CPS UPS with PnP Interface.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Next button again.
- Windows will copy the files to your hard drive. (The installation graph will not move, but the files will be copied).
- When it is done, click Finish. Remove the disk from the floppy drive.
- Windows will then display a message stating that you will need to shut down your computer and install a card. You do not have to install a card.
- Exit back to the Desktop.
- Restart your computer.
Every time you start your computer, PowerPanel Plus will appear on the screen and disappear within seconds. This is the normal operation of the program. It minimizes itself and appears as a battery icon in the lower right corner of your screen next to the time display. Click on the battery icon to bring the PowerPanel Plus display up on your screen.
To minimize, click on the "minimize bar" (small bar just under the orange power button.) The PowerPanel Plus display will minimize to the battery icon by the time display in the lower right corner of the screen.
The orange Power button is used only if you wish to disable the software. Although the unit will operate successfully without the software, your computer will not automatically shut down during a power failure.
2. Instalingl PowerPanel within Windows 95/98/NT (SL series)
- Click on Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Control Panel.
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
- Insert the disk into the floppy drive.
- Click on the Install button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once the software is installed, remove the disk from the floppy drive and restart your computer.

3. Installing PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus within Windows NT (Power99/Power2000 serie)
Windows NT has generic UPS Program. This must be shut off to use PowerPanel or Power Panel Plus. To shut off the NT UPS program:
- Click Start.
- Click Settings.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double Click on the UPS icon.
- Remove the check mark next to "UPS is installed on".
- Click OK
- You will get a message stating that the UPS is in an unknown state. Acknowledge the message and then exit to the desktop.
.To install PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus on Windows NT:
- Have your computer and UPS turned off.
- Connect the serial cable to the port on the UPS unit and an open serial port on the back of your computer.
- Turn the UPS on and start your computer.
- Click Start.
- Click Run.
- Insert the disk into the floppy drive.
- Type in A:\Setup.
- Click OK.
- If you are installing PowerPanel Plus, you will be asked if you want to install PowerPanel plus. Answer yes.
- The install shield wizard will start.
- The welcome to PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus Setup Program will appear. Click Next.
- The next screen will say, "Setup will install PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus in the following folder. Click Next.
- The install bar will show the installation progress.
- When it is finished installing, it will ask you if you want to restart your computer.
- Remove the disk from the floppy drive.
- Click Finish.
- Restart your computer.

4.Why is PowerPanel Plus Inactive in Windows 95/98 ?
If your PowerPanel Plus display looks like the following, then the software is unable to communicate with the hardware.

The most common reasons the software is not communicating are:
- The serial cable is not connected.
- The serial cable is connected to the wrong port.
- The software is set to the wrong port.
- The software has been loaded more than once.
- The COM port is not active or it has a conflict.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Check that the cable is securely connected to the UPS unit and the serial port on the back of the computer.
- Check to see if there is more than one port on the back of the computer.
- Once cable connections have been tested, click on the battery icon to bring up the PowerPanel Plus display.
- Click on the Setup button.
- Look for the "UPS is installed on" (see picture). This shows the port that is currently in use.


- Click the arrow button next to the box to open the COM port menu.
- Change the port to COM 1.
- Click the OK button.
- If this is the correct port the display will light up (see picture).
- If the display does not light up, try each port until you find the correct one.
If the software and unit are set up correctly, your display should look like this:

If you are still unable to get communication active:
- Check the back of the computer for another serial port. If there is, move the cable and try the steps listed above.
- Check the system tray (near the time display in the lower right corner of the screen.) If two battery icons are showing, the software has been installed twice.
- To remove the second install, follow the directions in FAQ 7.
- Continue troubleshooting the communications port settings.

5. Why is PowerPanel Plus Inactive in Windows NT?
Windows NT has generic UPS Program. This must be shut off to use PowerPanel Plus. To shut off the NT UPS program:
- Click Start.
- Click Settings.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double Click on the UPS icon.
- The first line will read, "Uninterruptible Power Supply is installed on". If the box to the left of this line is checked, remove the check.
- You will receive a message that says, " UPS service is in an unknown state". Click ok.
- Reboot your computer
6. My CyberPower unit is beeping. Why?
CyberPower units have a feature called "Sensitive to on line voltage". This detects quick changes that occur in the AC voltage. These changes are within the safe operating range of the unit. When these occur, the UPS switches to battery power to keep the voltage constant.
This feature can become disruptive with the unit beeping frequently. If it does, the sensitivity feature will need to be turned off.
Turning off the Sensitivity feature.
- Click on the battery icon near the time display in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Click on Setup.
- The first line in the setup screen is labeled "Sensitive to variation online voltage."
- Uncheck the box to the left of this line.
- Click the OK button.
- Minimize the display by clicking on the green minimize bar under the power button.
- Shutdown the computer.
- Turn the CyberPower unit off.
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Turn the unit back on. The unit will beep three times during a self-test.
- Restart your computer
7. How do I remove PowerPanel/ PowerPanel Plus?
If you used the Plug and Play disk (PowerPanel Plus only):
- Click on the battery icon to open the PowerPanel Plus display.
- Click the orange power button to halt the program.
- Click on Start.
- Click on Settings.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double-click on System.
- Click the Device Manager Tab.
- Look for either the UPS symbol (gray diamond) , Battery (gray diamond), or Other Devices (yellow question mark).
- Open the appropriate symbol (click on the plus sign).
- Select CPS UPS with PnP Interface and then click on Remove.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Exit the device manager and then double-click "Add/Remove Programs" (located in the control panel).
- Look for PowerPanel Plus.
- If it is listed:
- select it and then click on remove.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- If it is not listed:
- Exit back to the Desktop.
- Double-click on My Computer.
- Double-click on your C (primary) drive.
- Delete the CyberPwr folder (it may already be deleted).
- Delete the P99Temp folder.
If you used the applications disk, or have installed PowerPanel:
- Click the battery icon to open the PowerPanel P display.
- Click the orange power button to halt the program.
- Click on Start.
- Click on Settings.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
- Select PowerPanel Pus and click remove.
This will uninstall the device and the software from your system.
8. Are PowerPanel and PowerPanel Plus compatible with Windows 98?
Yes, both PowerPanel and PowerPanel Plus have passed all necessary tests to be fully compatible with Windows 98
9. Are PowerPanel and PowerPanel Plus Y2K compliant?
Yes, both PowerPanel and PowerPanel Plus are Y2K compliant. Please read our Year 2000 statement for more information.
10. The power failed and my equipment shut off, what is wrong (Power99/SL series)?
Check to be sure that you have the computer and the monitor plugged into the battery power supplied outlets. There are two sets of three outlets on the unit. Three provide battery power and three provide surge protection only
11. I am not getting any power from the battery outlets, what should I do?
Attempt to reset the unit by doing the following:
- Turn the unit off.
- Unplug everything from the unit.
- Leave the CyberPower unit plugged into the wall socket.
- Wait 15 seconds. Turn the unit back on.
- Three short beeps will indicate the unit doing a self-test.
- Test the battery powered outlets with a low wattage item such as a 60 Watt lamp.
12. I don't have an available serial port, will my CyberPower UPS work without the software?
The use of the PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus software is not necessary for the successful operation of the unit. Your computer will not shutdown automatically unless you are using the software. For further information about different connection options, please contact CyberPower directly.
13. What outlets should I plug my equipment into?
Your computer and monitor need to be plugged into the battery power supplied outlets. If you have an externally powered data storage device (tape drive, Zip drive, etcÖ) that should also be plugged into the battery outlets.
Other devices such as scanners, printers and speakers, should be plugged into the surge protection only outlets. Items such as laser printers, vacuums, curling irons and space heaters MUST NOT be plugged into the unit at all. Doing so will overload the unit and void your warranty.
14. There are two disks that came with my Power 99/Power 2000 unit, which one do I use?
For Windows 95/98, the Plug and Play disk is the preferred one to use.
For Windows NT, use the application disk .
You only need to use one disk to install the software.
15. How do I configure the UPS function supplied by NT to monitor my CyberPower UPS unit?
The use of the NT UPS service is optional. NT provides a "generic" UPS monitoring System that can be used in place of PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus. You can only use One UPS monitoring program at a time.
Make sure that PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus is either removed or not running. Set the UPS function signals to:
- Power Failure Signal: Negative
- Low Battery Signal: Negative
- Remote UPS Shutdown: Positive
- Select the correct COM port to start the UPS service
16. What is the surge response time of a CyberPower UPS?
Instant
17. What operating systems does PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus support?
Currently, PowerPanel V2.02 and PowerPanel Plus V1.02, V1.12 and V1.13 support Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT.
PowerPanel V1.12 and V1.13 will also support Windows 2000.
PowerPanel software is designed for use with the Power98 and SL series. This software can be used with Power99 and Power2000 units.
PowerPanel Plus software is designed for use with the Power99 and Power2000 series. PowerPanel Plus software will not function with the Power98 or SL units.
18. When I was installing the software, I got an error message. What do I do?
If you receive the message "There was an error in the move data process-623", it means that the software is already installed. The PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus software will appear as a battery icon located in your system tray. If this icon is not present, and you receive this error message, please restart your computer. The PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus display screen will appear at startup for a few seconds, and then minimize to the system tray. Click on this icon to open the PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus display.

19. Why does the approximate backup time show in red?
The approximate backup time can show in one of three colors: green, yellow, or red. The colors are based on the number of minutes available. For example, if the approximate backup time shows in red, you have less then 10 minutes available.
20. How do I run a self-test?
There are two types of self-tests that can be run on the unit. The first involves use the software, and the second simulates a power failure.
To run the software test:
- Open the PowerPanel/PowerPanel Plus screen.
- Click the setup button
- Click the red run button
This test switches the unit to battery for 5 seconds. The unit will beep during this self-test.
To run the power failure simulation test:
- Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
- Unplug the unit from the wall
- The unit will beep while it is unplugged.
- Please note that the UPS will turn off 2 minutes after the software starts to shutdown the computer. If you plug in the UPS before the UPS shuts down, the UPS will not restart and will not provide power to the battery outlets. To correct this, turn the UPS off, wait 10 seconds and then turn the UPS on.
