4. Why is PowerPanel inactive ?

If your PowerPanel™ display looks like the following, then the software is not able to communicate with the hardware.

The most common reasons that the software is not able to communicate with the hardware are:

  • The serial cable is not connected.
  • The serial cable in not the one that was provided with the unit.
  • The unit is not providing battery power.
  • The serial cable is connected to the wrong port.
  • The software has been installed more than once.
  • The COM port is not enabled or has a conflict.

Troubleshooting

  • Check that the cable is securely connected to the UPS unit and to a serial port on the back of the computer. ( Please note:You must use the serial cable that came with the unit ).
  • Check to make sure that the UPS is providing battery power. The easiest way to do that is to check that there is an item plugged into one of the "Battery/Surge" outlets and that item is on.

If you are still unable to get the communication active:

  •
  • Check the back of the computer for another serial port. If there is one, move the cable and try the steps listed above. ( Please note:You must use the cable that came with the unit ).
  • Check the system tray (near the time display in the lower right corner of the screen). If there are two battery icons showing, the software has been installed twice.
  • If you are still unable to get the communications active, please contact tech support.

5. How do I configure the UPS function supplied by Windows NT to monitor my CyberPower UPS?

The use of the Windows NT UPS service is optional. Windows NT provides a generic UPS monitoring service that can be used in place of PowerPanel™.You cannot use both at the same time. • Click on Start, point to Settings, then Control Panel.
  • Double-click on the UPS icon.

Set the monitoring signals to:

  • Click the OK button to start the UPS service.

9. Where is the serial number located on the unit?

The serial number is located on the bottom of the unit underneath the bar code. The serial number will start with the model number (300SL, 320SL, 375SL, 500SL, 525SL, 650SL, 725SL, 585AVR, or 625AVR).You only need to list the numeric portion of the serial number. For example:if the serial number listed on the unit were 320SL123456, you would use 320123456 for registration purposes.

10. The power failed and my equipment turned off, what could be wrong?

The SL series of UPS units have two sets of outlets. One set is labeled "Battery/Surge" and one set is labeled "Surge".The outlets labeled "Battery/Surge" are the outlets that will receive battery power during a power failure. You should plug your computer and monitor into these outlets and any externally powered critical data storage device. Items such as printers, speakers, and scanners should be plugged into the outlets labeled "Surge". Please note that high drain devices such as laser printers, space heaters, copiers and paper shredders should not be connected to any of the outlets on the UPS.

Your computer and monitor need to be connected directly to the Battery/Surge outlets of the UPS. Placing a surge suppressor between the UPS and the connected equipment can prevent the battery power from being applied to the connected equipment.

11. I am not getting any power from the battery power supplied outlets, what should I do?

If you are not getting power from the battery power supplied outlets, attempt to reset the unit by doing the following:

  • Turn the unit off.
  • Unplug everything from the unit.
  • Leave the CyberPower UPS plugged into the wall socket.
  • Wait 15 seconds.
  • Turn the UPS back on.
  • The UPS should beep once during the self-test.
  • Test the battery powered outlets with a low wattage item such as a 60-watt lamp.

If you are unable to get power from the battery outlets after resetting the unit, please contact tech support.

12. I don't have an available serial port; will my CyberPower UPS work without the software?

The use of the PowerPanel™ software is optional. It is not necessary for the successful operation of the UPS. Your computer will not shutdown automatically without the software installed. The unit will provide surge suppression and battery backup without using the software.

13. What outlets should i plug my equipment into?

Your computer and monitor need to be connected to the outlets labeled "Battery/Surge".If you have an externally powered data storage device such as a tape drive or Zip drive, that should also be connected to the battery power supplied outlets.

Items such as printers, scanners, and speakers should be connected to the outlets labeled "Surge". Items such as laser printers, vacuums, space heaters, copiers, curling irons and paper shredders MUST NOT be connected to any of the outlets on the unit. Doing so will overload the unit and void your warranty.

14. What is the surge response time of my unit?

Instant.

15. The electrical wiring fault light is on, what should I do?

The electrical wiring fault light indicates that the outlet that the unit is connected to is either not properly grounded, or has reversed wiring. Try connecting the unit to another outlet. If the unit does not display the wiring fault light in the new outlet you will need to have an electrician correct the problem with the faulty outlet.
