Microsoft UPS Service FAQs

  1. With the computer and the UPS off, connect the serial cable that was included with the unit to an open serial port on the computer.
  2. Turn the UPS on and start the computer.
  3. Once the computer has started, click on start, then control panel.
  4. In the control panel, double-click on power options.

  5. Click the UPS tab.

  6. Click the select button

  7. Set the manufacturer to Generic.
  8. Select the COM port that the UPS is connected to.
  9. Click on Custom so it is highlighted.
  10. Click the next button.

  11. Set the UPS Signal polarity as shown below.

  12. Click the finish button
  13. Click the configure button.

 

 

  1. Seconds between power failure and first notification - This is the time between when the power fails and the UPS starts beeping.
    Seconds between subsequent power failure notifications - This is the time between beeps during a power failure
  2. Minutes on battery before critical alarm - This determines how long the UPS will run before the operating system starts to shut down. If left blank, the unit will run until there is approximately 2 minutes of backup time remaining, then the operating system will start to shut down.
  3. Next, instruct the computer to: - Leave as "Shut Down".
  4. Finally, turn off the UPS. - If checked, this will allow the UPS to be turned off automatically once the operating system is shut down.
