Product Overview

The Home Office Surge Protector P1208TNC offers vital surge suppression for common home and office devices such as computers and electronics. It prevents spikes in energy caused by storms and electrical power surges and is ideal for safeguarding personal computers, phones/faxes/modems, and consumer electronics. The P1208TNC provides 4350 joules of protection and 12 surge-protected outlets (8 standard and 4 widely spaced). Data line protection occurs for cable/satellite/modem and with RJ11 ports for telecommunication devices (phones, faxes, modems, and DSL lines).

Features of the P1208TNC include automatic shutdown, an On/Off switch with integrated 15-Amp circuit breaker, EMI/RFI noise filter, data line protection, LED indicators (GroundedProtected), a power cord (8 ft.) with a right-angle plug, outlet safety covers, keyhole mounting slots, and impact-resistant casing. The P1206TC comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and a $500,000 Connected Equipment Guarantee.

Product Features
  • Surge Protection
Diverts excess voltage away from sensitive electronic equipment during an AC power surge or power spike to prevent damage.
  • Data Line Protection
Prevents power surges that travel through telephone lines from causing damage to electronics.
  • Automatic Shutdown
Protects connected electronics with the integrated circuit breaker which automatically switches off in the event of an overload that exceeds the model’s ability to suppress the signal.
  • EMI/RFI Noise Filter
Maintains clean power for connected equipment by filtering out electromagnetic and radio frequency interference to improve picture and sound quality.
  • Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) Technology
Allows normal current to pass through the device, while diverting any surges/spikes through the ground circuit, to safeguard connected electronics and the surge suppressor.
  • LED Indicators
Light to indicate the model’s status: Protected and Grounded.
  • Widely Spaced Outlets
Accommodate transformer-based plugs without compromising the access of other outlets.
  • Power Cord
Connects to power sources, allowing the model to be placed where it’s needed.
  • Cord Management System
    Keeps cords neat and organized.
  • Keyhole Slots
Enable the model to be placed on a wall, under a desk, and in other configurations to optimize space and keep power cords out of the way.
  • Damage-Resistant Housing
Ensures maximum durability and prolongs the life of the model.
  • Connected Equipment Guarantee
CyberPower will repair or replace properly connected equipment if it is damaged by a power surge.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty
Covers defects in materials and workmanship in the product under normal use and conditions. See warranty for details.

Why Do I Need A Surge Protector?

Utility power supplied to electrical outlets is sometimes inconsistent. The short-duration voltage surges or spikes that occasionally happen can damage components in electronic devices such as computers and workstations. In addition to equipment damage, irretrievable data loss may occur. In the U.S., the nominal or standard voltage supplied to household and office wiring is 120 volts. A voltage surge or spike can cause electronic components to overheat, either immediately destroying them or causing permanent damage that can lead to premature failure.

A surge protector or surge suppressor provides protection against power surges. This device is located in the power circuit between the utility power outlet and the connected electronic equipment. Surge protectors work by diverting excess voltage to the ground, allowing only the nominal voltage to travel through the wiring to connected devices. This is accomplished using a variable resistance component in the surge protector called a metal oxide varistor (MOV). Under normal voltage conditions, the resistance of the MOV is such that it remains closed. As utility voltage increases beyond nominal, the MOV resistance decreases accordingly which forces the unwanted overvoltage to ground, maintaining a constant flow of nominal voltage to sensitive electronic equipment.

Registered Jacks

A registered jack (RJ) consists of the jack construction and wiring pattern of a standardized physical network interface to connect telecommunications or data equipment to a service provided by local exchange carrier or long distance carrier. Many CyberPower surge protectors feature data protection for RJ-11 (standard phone lines) and RJ-45 (Ethernet).

RJ-11 (RJ11): A telephone interface, a RJ-11 (registered jack-11), also known as RJ11, uses a cable of twisted wire pairs and a modular jack with two, four, or six contacts. A four-wire RJ-11 connector (6P4C) plugs a telephone into the wall and the handset into the telephone. A six-wire RJ-11 (6P6C) connector is commonly used with three telephone lines.

RJ-45 (RJ45): A data networking interface, the eight-wire RJ-45 (registered jack-45), also known as RJ45, uses a cable of twisted wire pairs and an 8-pin modular jack. RJ-45 connectors are typically used with Ethernet and Type 3 Token Ring networks.

Support
How do I correctly use the IN and OUT jacks for RJ11/45 phone/network ports?

To correctly use the IN and OUT jacks for the RJ11/45 phone/network ports:

  • Connect the cord from your wall to the IN jack. NOTE: For some surge suppressors, the IN jack might show the icon of a phone.
  • Connect your computer or peripheral to the OUT jack. NOTE: For some surge suppressors, the OUT jack might show the icon of a computer.
