Product Overview

The CyberPower 1080 Essential Surge Protector provides computer/audio/video-grade surge suppression with 3600 joules of protection. The 1080 has 10 outlets (6 standard and 4 widely spaced) and metal oxide varistor (MOV) technology. It is equipped with a RJ11 port that protects phone/fax/modem/DSL equipment, as well as a gold-plated RG6 coaxial port that is perfect for protecting your cable modem, cable TV lines, and DSS equipment. Electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) shielding will rid your equipment from any harmful EMI/RF interference. MOV technology ensures the protection of the surge suppressor and all connected electronics.

The 1080 comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and a Connected Equipment Guarantee of $150,000.

The 1080 surge protector was replaced by the CSHT1208TNC2 surge protector.

  • Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV)
MOV technology allows normal current to pass through the device, while diverting any surge/spikes through the ground circuit. This safely protects all connected electronics along with the surge suppressor itself.
  • Transformer-Spaced Outlets
Widely spaced outlets allow you to conveniently add transformer-based plugs without compromising the utility of other outlets.
  • EMI/RFI Shielding
Provides shielding against electromagnetic interference and radio frequency signals. Most commonly, this is used to prevent line noise that occurs over telephone lines and stereo electronics.
  • ISO and Safety Certifications
All CyberPower manufacturing facilities are ISO-9001 Quality Tested. Our products are also UL Listed and CSA Certified.
  • Child-Safe Outlets
Outlets on the surge suppressor that are not used can be closed off so that accidental electrical charging of objects cannot occur.
  • Keyhole Mounting Slots
Convenient mounting slots are located on the back on the surge suppressor.
  • Sturdy ABS Case
Constructed of impact-resistant composite material for maximum durability.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty
Covers defects in materials and workmanship in the product under normal use and conditions. See warranty for details.

Why Do I Need A Surge Protector?

Utility power supplied to electrical outlets is sometimes inconsistent. The short-duration voltage surges or spikes that occasionally happen can damage components in electronic devices such as computers and workstations. In addition to equipment damage, irretrievable data loss may occur. In the U.S., the nominal or standard voltage supplied to household and office wiring is 120 volts. A voltage surge or spike can cause electronic components to overheat, either immediately destroying them or causing permanent damage that can lead to premature failure.

A surge protector or surge suppressor provides protection against power surges. This device is located in the power circuit between the utility power outlet and the connected electronic equipment. Surge protectors work by diverting excess voltage to the ground, allowing only the nominal voltage to travel through the wiring to connected devices. This is accomplished using a variable resistance component in the surge protector called a metal oxide varistor (MOV). Under normal voltage conditions, the resistance of the MOV is such that it remains closed. As utility voltage increases beyond nominal, the MOV resistance decreases accordingly which forces the unwanted overvoltage to ground, maintaining a constant flow of nominal voltage to sensitive electronic equipment.
